Green Agenda

Shrink your overheads by reducing your energy consumption.

Like all responsible organisations, SITS Group understands that businesses have a responsibility to reduce their consumption of natural energy resources and limit the waste products they produce. Whilst not all companies can afford to invest heavily in new architectures, or develop new more efficient business processes overnight, we can often take steps towards reducing the energy that we consume and the energy that we waste.

IT departments are often one of the most energy and consumable hungry sectors within a business, and in the present climate of rising energy prices, budgets and profit margins are being eaten into. SITS Group work with our clients to help reduce this overhead by implementing virtualisation technology; we help to consolidate existing server estates and limit the amount of hardware being continuously purchased yet rarely retired, as well as helping to greatly reduce ongoing power consumption, cooling requirements and maintenance costs.

Common energy wasting circumstances:

  • Numerous legacy servers left powered on for infrequent historic record access
  • Lack of capacity planning - over populating storage environments during installation (disks powered and spinning but not earmarked for use in the near future)
  • A dedicated application server running at 10 - 15% of its capability (this is very common)
  • Departmental server allocation, specified and paid for by a departmental budget for a single project or application
  • Duplicated data storage throughout the network, tying up unnecessary disk resource
  • Poor resource planning and lifecycle management

SITS Group specialise in helping companies to reduce their IT 'Total Cost of Ownership' (TCO) whilst taking steps towards being a more environmentally efficient business.
